With summer blockbuster season upon us, we are introducing a recurring series to our blog. Every week, we will look at the biggest movies new to theatres – all of which can be seen right here at WEM at Scotiabank Theatre. Click here for weekend show times.
Just in time for Father’s Day comes That’s My Boy, starring Saturday Night Live alumni Adam Sandler and current cast member Andy Samberg, with Vanilla Ice playing himself. Sandler plays Donny Berger who, in his early teens, fathers a son (Samberg) as a result of an inappropriate teacher/student relationship. Despite Donny’s horrible parenting skills, his son grows up to become a wealthy and successful businessman and now, on the eve of his wedding, has to deal with his father who is desperate to reconnect with him.
The other big movie opening this week is Rock of Ages. Set on the Sunset Strip in the height of the “Hair Metal” age, this musical features, among many others, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Despite the big stars, the real draw for many will be the music with such ‘80s classics as We Built This City, Don’t Stop Believin’, I want to Know What Love Is, Any Way You Want It, Harden My Heart, Waiting For A Girl Like You and Paradise City.
Remember to check back weekly for all of this summer’s biggest movies, including The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Expendables 2, and many more.
