West Edmonton Mall is hosting a two-day Lunar New Year Festival organized by the Edmonton Chinatown Multi-Cultural Centre to help celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Dragon on Saturday, January 21, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, January 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This two-day cultural festival will feature more than 50 booths selling items such as Chinese costumes, arts and crafts, and Lunar New Year decorations and delicacies, in addition to 20 hours of dynamic entertainment. Guests will be able to watch dragon and lion dances, contemporary and classical dances, tai chi and martial arts demonstrations, and performances by Edmonton’s Chinese Opera, choirs, a Chinese orchestra, and a live band. Featured entertainer renowned magician Shu Yan Yu will perform the traditional Chinese art of “face changing.”
Cost to attend Edmonton Chinatown Multi-Cultural Centre’s Lunar New Year Festival is $2 per person, although entry is free to those aged 10 and under and those over age 65.
